Charles Hanson took this photo of the exterior of the Juneau Public Library (and noted that its fortress-like structure does not provide curb-appeal or visual appeal to lure one inside) while on his 7-day cruise through Alaska's Inner Passage. He was able to use the internet connections at both the Sitka and Ketchikan public libraries to send messages back home to Michigan Friends. In the remote settings of Alaska, libraries serve an important community function, a social and informational network, and Friends provide a link to those connections. |
